Beto O’Rourke, Julián Castro set to be on presidential debate stage together
Two Democratic presidential hopefuls from Texas will join eight other candidates on the debate stage at the end of the month.
Beto O’Rourke and Julián Castro will be among 10 candidates who qualified for the first debate on Wednesday, June 26.
Here’s who else will be joining the Texas candidates on the debate stage in Miami:
- Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts
- Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
- Former Rep. John Delaney of Maryland
- Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii
- Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio
- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio
- Washington Gov. Jay Inslee
Another group of ten candidates, which includes Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Sen. Kamala Harris of California and former Vice President Joe Biden, will have a separate debate the next day on Thursday, June 27.
Both Texas candidates are fighting an uphill battle to gain traction among a crowded field of 20 Democratic candidates.
A Quinnipiac University poll released last week shows O’Rourke polling at 3 percent and Castro at less than 1 percent for the Democratic nomination. A Morning Consult poll also released last week shows O’Rourke polling at 4 percent and Castro at 1 percent.
Another set of debates will occur at the end of July in Detroit, Michigan. The lineup for that contest has yet to be released.
